CREATE: A Choreography Intensive
July 6-19, 2025
Ages 18-25
Tuition: $1,150
An application is required to participate in CREATE. The application deadline is March 15, 2025.
Focusing on the craft and the choreographic process, CREATE is a division of NewDANCEfest designed to inspire and empower the next generation of movement makers. Participants ages 18 and older will engage in a dynamic and immersive experience that combines rigorous technique classes, lectures on creative leadership, movement exploration, and guided rehearsals to develop their own choreographic voices.
Four selected participants will be recognized as emerging choreographers and will receive personalized mentorship from artistic director Stephanie Pizzo and master choreographers to refine their craft further. Emerging choreographers will present their original works alongside the festival’s Gala program.
10 additional participants will be selected to participate in all aspects of the intensive, except choreographing their own piece on fellow participants. These dancers will have the unique opportunity to perform in the Gala program as dancers for either the master choreographers or Eisenhower Dance Detroit repertory works.
